Shala Fardin, MD Co-Founder

Dr. Shala Rahbar Fardin is a board-certified dermatologist originally from West Virginia. She graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Yale and received her medical degree from Harvard Medical School. She continued her residency training at Harvard and was selected as a Chief Resident in her final year. During residency, she enjoyed tackling challenging medical dermatological cases with a focus on practicing data-driven (evidence-based) medicine. Additionally, her love for laser and cosmetic procedures motivated her to spend extra elective time training in laser and cosmetics with leaders in the field at Mass. General Hospital.

After eight blustery Boston winters, Dr. Fardin and her husband, a California native, were delighted to move to San Francisco in 2007. While in the Bay Area, Dr. Fardin practiced in Marin and San Francisco with several well-recognized dermatology colleagues before taking time off to be with her twin daughters. Dr. Fardin is thrilled to realize her longtime dream of starting her own practice in the creation of Southern Marin Dermatology alongside Dr. Ashley Smith. Dr. Fardin has an extensive background in both medical and cosmetic dermatology including the diagnosis and management of dermatologic diseases of the skin, cosmetic laser procedures, as well as treating and caring for children with more complex skin disorders. Dr. Fardin views Southern Marin Dermatology as an opportunity to combine her passion for patient care with modern technology to refresh and redesign the patient experience.

Dr. Fardin understands the importance of treating the whole patient, not just the skin. She values compassion, a warm bedside manner, and is committed to a patient-centered approach to dermatology.  She practices preventative dermatology and encourages the data-driven use of natural products and botanicals in skin care.  She has an avid interest in how nutrition affects skin and strives to help patients achieve a healthy, youthful, and fresh appearance to their skin.

Dr. Fardin is a Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology, among other medical organizations, and enjoys teaching as a volunteer Clinical Assistant Professor in Dermatology at UCSF.  She lives in San Francisco with her husband and daughters. In her spare time, she enjoys power yoga, skiing, and exploring the Bay Area (especially where food or playgrounds are concerned) with her family.
