“Research indicates that squamous cell carcinoma incidence has risen by more than 250 percent,” according to the American Academy of Dermatology. SCC is not only potentially fatal but it’s also more common than melanoma.
Be alert for signs:
- May appear as a pink or white bump
- May appear as a rough or scaly patch—or a sore that won’t heal
- Moles aren’t the only skin lesions that may indicate cancer—if you have a skin growth that is new, changing, or won’t go away see your dermatologist
Protection and early detection are vital. Remember to always seek shade when outdoors, wear protective clothing and use a broad-spectrum, water-resistant sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher.
