Scrapes, Cuts and Scratches: Tips for Reducing Scars
April 3, 2018
A scar is a natural part of the healing process but fortunately things can be done to help reduce the appearance of scars from minor injuries. The appearance of a scar often depends on how your wound heals. Read on for tips to reduce the appearance of a scar:
- Keep the cut or scrape clean by gently washing it with mild soap and water.
- Use petroleum jelly on the injured skin to keep the wound moist and prevent it from forming a scab.
- Use an adhesive bandage to cover the wound and change it daily while it heals.
- Always use sunscreen on the wound area after it has healed. Protecting the area from the sun may help reduce red or brown discoloration and help it fade faster.
For scars that aren’t reducing in appearance over time see a dermatologist for more advanced options.
