New Research on Melanoma

While it’s important to look for changes in any moles on the skin, new research published in the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology indicates the importance of looking for new growths.

Researchers found that less than one-third of melanomas in 38 published studies actually arose from an existing mole–most appeared as new spots on the skin.

It’s important to perform regular skin self-exams and any new or changes in existing spots warrant a trip to a dermatologist.

Seek shade and when outside use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF of 30 or higher.
