Tips for an Infection-Free Ear Piercing Experience

Planning to take that seminal ear piercing step with your daughter this summer? Follow these tips from the American Academy of Dermatology to help avoid infection:
- Always wash hands before touching newly pierced ears.
- Leave the starter earrings in for at least six weeks!
- Wash your lobes with soap and water at least once daily.
- Twist the earrings a few times a day to keep skin from forming around the earring post.
- Dip a cotton ball in rubbing alcohol and gently clean the skin around the piercings twice a day to keep away germs and prevent scabbing.
