Ashley Smith, MD, Medical Director

Dr. Ashley Smith, is a board certified dermatologist and fellowship-trained cosmetic surgeon. Graduating cum laude with a Bachelor’s degree in Integrative Biology from the University of California at Berkeley, Dr. Smith went on to receive her doctoral degree in medicine with magna cum laude distinction from Saint Louis University School of Medicine.

Dr. Smith was also elected to the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. She served as Chief Resident during her final year of dermatology residency at Rush Presbyterian-St. Lukes in Chicago, IL. Dr. Smith’s professional accomplishments include a prestigious fellowship in Advanced Cosmetic and Dermatologic Surgery at the California Skin Institute in Mountain View, California, under the mentorship of a well-recognized pioneer in advancing the forefront of cosmetic dermatologic surgery. This fellowship puts her in an elite group of dermatologists nationwide who have received this level of cosmetic surgery training.

Dr. Smith understands the art of cosmetic evaluation and procedures and her goal is to provide natural-appearing cosmetic outcomes.

She is skilled in performing facial and eyelid surgeries, liposuction and advanced laser resurfacing. She never provides a cookie-cutter approach to her patients and works to create an individualized treatment plan with advanced techniques.

Her areas of expertise also include thorough skin cancer surveillance and treatment and cosmetic rejuvenation and photoaging prevention. During medical school Dr. Smith was exposed to training in holistic and complementary medicine, Ayurveda, traditional Chinese medicine, nutrition and naturopathic medicine and she is open to incorporating these modalities where appropriate.

Dr. Smith’s patient approach is that she is there to listen, collaborate, explain a diagnosis and present treatment options to allow patients to be more aware, empowered and informed of their health. It’s what she looks for in her doctor and she believes it’s what her patients at SMD deserve.

Dr. Smith is a member of the American Academy of Dermatology and American Society of Dermatologic Surgery and continues to perform an array of volunteer work including health education programs for the public. Through a partnership with Neutrogena and the Nike Women’s Half Marathon, Dr. Smith enjoys volunteering her time to provide skin cancer screenings.

When not caring for her patients, she enjoys international travel, Anusara and Vinyasa yoga, running half marathons, tennis and cooking. She speaks Spanish and lives in Mill Valley with her husband and two sons.
