Ashley Decker, MD

Dr. Ashley Decker (Jensen) is a board-certified dermatologist and dermatologic surgeon. Originally from Southern California, Dr. Decker graduated from California Polytechnic State University – San Luis Obispo with a B.S in Nutritional Sciences and minors in Psychology and Biology. She received her doctorate in medicine with cum laude distinction from Boston University School of Medicine and was inducted into the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha honor society. After medical school, Dr. Decker completed dermatology residency at Weill Cornell-New York Presbyterian / Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.

Dr. Decker went on to complete an esteemed American College of Mohs Surgery accredited fellowship in Micrographic Surgery and Dermatologic Oncology at Cooper University Hospital, under the tutelage of Dr. Naomi Lawrence, a leader in the field of surgical and cosmetic dermatology and former president of the American Academy of Dermatologic Surgery. During fellowship, Dr. Decker received comprehensive training in Mohs micrographic surgery, including Mohs for melanoma and other rare tumors, as well as complex reconstruction.

Upon completion of fellowship, Dr. Decker was recruited to the faculty at Cooper University Hospital / Cooper Medical School of Rowan University. During her time at Cooper, Dr. Decker performed thousands of skin cancer surgeries and reconstructions, ran a complex cutaneous oncology clinic at MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper, and was involved with teaching at all levels of medical education. She has extensive expertise in cosmetic dermatology including neuromodulators, soft tissue fillers, chemical peels, ablative/non-ablative laser resurfacing, and sclerotherapy.

Dr. Decker has published original research in leading dermatology journals including the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology and the Dermatologic Surgery Journal. She is a frequent invited speaker at national dermatologic and Mohs conferences and holds leadership positions within the American Society of Dermatologic Surgery and Association of Academic Cosmetic Dermatology.  She is passionate about educating medical trainees and sharing her knowledge with patients for their own self-care through the DermSurgery Digest podcast and social media.

Dr. Decker’s is committed to practicing empathetic and patient-centered medicine. She creates a safe environment that fosters open dialogue and a trusting relationship with each patient to create space for a collaborative approach to treatment and care.

After nearly 18 years on the east coast, Dr. Decker is ecstatic to be back on the west (best) coast and to reunite with her family here in the San Francisco Bay Area.  She is thrilled to join SMD’s exceptional women-led dermatology team!

Outside of work, Dr. Decker loves running (she just completed her 11th half marathon) and yoga, spending time with family/friends including her husband and two young daughters (plus their slightly mischievous mini-goldendoodle, Charlie Brown) traveling the world, and exploring new restaurants.
