Are You Using Sunscreen Correctly?

Do you use enough sunscreen? Do you reapply often enough? Are you using the right sunscreen? Read on for our top sunscreen tips.

  1. Most people only apply 25-50 percent of the recommended amount of sunscreen, according to the American Academy of Dermatology. Use one ounce of sunscreen (enough to fill a shot glass) to cover the exposed areas of the body.
  2. Put on sunscreen 15 minutes before you go outside.
  3. Reapply sunscreen every two hours, after swimming/sweating, and according to directions on the bottle.
  4. Wear sunscreen even on cloudy days.
  5. Choose a sunscreen that is broad-spectrum, SPF 30 or higher and has a water resistance claim.
