As we enter May 2025, we’re excited to bring you this month’s news and promotions centered around Skin Cancer Awareness and Mother’s Day specials. Skin cancer prevention is at the core of our practice, and this month, we’re highlighting the importance of regular skin checks, sun protection, and the latest treatments in honor of Skin Cancer Awareness Month. Additionally, our Mother’s Day skincare specials are designed to help you or a loved one indulge in luxurious treatments while prioritizing long-term skin health.

In the last year, we have diagnosed 642 cases of skin cancer at Southern Marin Dermatology, with 66 of those being melanomas, the deadliest form of skin cancer. These statistics emphasize the need for regular skin cancer screenings to catch potential concerns early. As part of our commitment to skin cancer prevention, we encourage you to take basic yet essential precautions, such as:

  • Wearing protective clothing, like hats, to shield your skin from harmful UV rays.

  • Applying sunscreen to both your face and body for full-body protection.

  • Scheduling annual skin check appointments with us to monitor any changes in your skin.

Our Marin community is known for its love of the outdoors, whether it’s hiking, cycling, or enjoying local parks and beaches. While these activities are great for your health, they also make it even more important to practice sun protection. By making sun protection part of your daily routine, you’re ensuring the longevity and health of your skin, no matter how much time you spend outdoors.

Service Spotlight: Mohs Surgery for Melanoma

Mohs surgery is the most effective treatment for melanomas, offering the highest cure rate while minimizing damage to surrounding healthy tissue. This precision technique ensures that all cancerous cells are removed, providing the best outcomes for patients with melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer.
