Southern Marin Dermatology was founded on a simple but ambitious premise: if the ideal dermatology experience doesn’t exist, build it! Co-founded by Dr. Ashley Smith in 2013, the practice has expanded thoughtfully, welcoming like-minded clinicians who share a commitment to raising the standard of care.
SMD has cultivated something rare: a team of accomplished women who practice together, driven by a belief that collaboration sharpens excellence. The practice is a collective of six highly accomplished clinicians — three physicians and three physician assistants — whose individual mastery is elevated through shared purpose. They are supported by an expert laser nurse and esthetician, resulting in truly comprehensive dermatology.
Fellowship training in cosmetic dermatologic surgery (including upper eyelid lifts), as well as Mohs micrographic surgery and dermatologic oncology, anchors the practice in advanced techniques, while additional specialties span hair loss, complex skin disorders, acne, aesthetics, and esthetician services.
It is not just the caliber of its clinicians, but the way they work together that makes the practice so special. Clinical decisions are informed by ongoing dialogue, shared case reviews, and a culture that values intellectual humility as much as expertise.
From advanced biologic therapies to high-risk skin cancer care to nuanced cosmetic treatments, care is grounded in evidence and refined through experience.
